Chat rooms are available as optional features. We offer two types of chat, Basic and Volano. The type of chat room that you add to your account is selected automatically depending upon which chat type is enabled for your account.

Both chat types enable you to add up to 25 separate chat rooms, each capable of accommodating up to 25 users each.

Volano Chat Note: In a attempt to prevent unauthorized use of our main volano chat servers, access is restricted to listed referring domains. In other words, you will only be able to access your chat room by typing in the URL directly, or by following a link from your primary domain. Volano chat rooms can not be accessed through parked domains. It can take up to 24 hours for your domain to be included in the referral file after adding volano chat to your account.

In order to add a chat room to your account, you must first manually create the subdirectory that will contain your chat room(s). This subdirectory should be created within your www directory structure. Then go to your control panel, and follow these steps:

  1. Select "Extras" from your control panel's left navigation bar.

  2. Select "Chat Services" from your control panel's top navigation bar.

  3. Enter the required information in the text boxes and click on "Setup".

For example, we will assume that all of your chat rooms will be located at http://mydomain.com/chat/. We will therefore assume that you have already created a "chat" subdirectory within your main www directory structure.

The add-chat feature creates a unique HTML page for each of your chat rooms. You define the name of this page in the "Name of chat file" option. The entry in this box should therefore end in either a .htm or .html file extension.

The "Location of chat file" field defines the directory you created above.

Example: To add a chat room named "support" that will be accessible by the URL, http://mydomain.com/chat/support.html, the entry would appear as follows:

Clicking on the "Setup" button will create a page named "support.html" within your "chat" subdirectory. You can modify this HTML file to make its appearance consistent with the rest of your web site -- just don't make any changes to the Java APPLET code which controls the chat application.
