IMPORTANT NOTE Site Manager
Your control panel includes a powerful Site Manager application that allows you to control almost all of the traditional UNIX-environment commands from a convenient, web-based interface. You can even create/edit web pages and upload files from the Site Manager. We hope that the Site Manager is essentially self-explanatory. A few things to consider when using the application include:
Navigating within the Site ManagerThe "Subdirectories" column displays one level of subdirectories at a time. When you first access the Site Manager, you'll see a listing of all subdirectories one level below your www directory, and in the "Files" column, you'll see all the files that reside in your www directory. To view subdirectories or files within a subordinate subdirectory, simply click on the directory name, and you'll move into that subdirectory.
Clicking on the directory name will display all subdirectories and files within that particular directory.
You can continue navigating deeper into that subdirectory using the same technique, or you can return to the www directory by clicking on the "[higher level directory]" link. File or Folder PropertiesTo view the properties of any file or folder, and/or to change permissions on the file or folder, click
on the icon (
That will bring up the Properties dialog box.
A Note on File PermissionsFile Permissions may be specifed numerically (e.g., 755, 777) or alphabetically (e.g., rwxr-xr-x). The Site Manager's "Set Permissions" function uses the alphabetic specification. In the alphabetic method, the first three characters refer to Owner permissions, the second set of three characters refers to Group permissions, and the third set of three characters refers to World or Everyone permissions. Some common numeric to alphabetic translations include:
Example: To set file permissions on a file named anypage.html to 755, check the following boxes: Another way to translate numeric to alphabetic is to understand what the numbers represent. In the three-digit numeric permissions setting, the first digit refers to the Owner, the second digit refers to the Group, and the third digit refers to the World/Everyone. Use the following table to translate the permissions:
