IMPORTANT NOTE Spam FilteringYOU SHOULD NOT enable spam filtering in cases where delivery of all legitimate email is critical.
Spam Filtering is now available for your Your Domain Host e-mail accounts. The filters compare incoming e-mail against the following spam blacklists:
In addition to the blacklist filtering, spam filtering will also reject any e-mail coming from a source IP that does not have a valid PTR (reverse DNS) record. The IP address of the sending email server is used to perform a reverse DNS lookup, to determine the domain name. If the domain has a valid PTR record, the message is accepted; if it does not find a valid PTR, the message is rejected. An IP address without a PTR record is usually either a dial-up or spoofed, both of which are indicators of spam. However, it should be noted that a significant number of legitimate mail servers do not have a reverse DNS entry. This may cause legitimate mail to be marked as spam (false positive). Since much spam comes from either open relays or badly configured hosts, this can be an effective way to block spam (as well as promote use of Internet standards). The combination of blacklist-filtering plus PTR record-checking results in a very aggressive spam filtering protocol. While no filtering system can reduce all spam, these filters will reduce the amount of incoming spam significantly. The use of these filters will also, almost certainly, result in some valid e-mail being rejected. You can enable / disable spam filtering for your entire domain or for individual POP user accounts. To change your spam filter settings, click the Spam Filter link from the left navigation bar -- the following screen will be displayed:
To turn filtering on for your entire domain, select the "Reset all filtering" button and click "Save Changes". To disable it for the entire domain, or for specific users only, select the appropriate button and click "Save Changes". For more advice on dealing with spam, see our TECH TIP: Reducing Spam
